Occurred on Jan 29, 2001
13 year-old Maurice walked out of a conference with his mother and an assistant principal saying he had to use the restroom and wanted a drink of water. He went into a restroom on the second floor of the school and fatally shot himself. Maurice's mother, an intensive-care nurse, arrived on the scene. She offered assistance because of her experience and went into the bathroom to find her son slumped against a wall with a .38-caliber revolver nearby. The gun came from his parents bedroom.

From what I've read and gathered, this was an outright suicide of a 13-year-old boy.

I was in 8th grade and he was in 7th grade... I remember that day very well. RIP Maurice Manuel

Same as Kyle Davis here, I was an 8th grader when this happened. It, indeed, was a suicide. Rest in peace, Maurice.

Maurice was in my class. There are no words to describe just what a wonderful person he was. He always brought a smile to everyone's face. It has been 10 years and 17 days later and it still hurts as bad as the day it happened ... Maurice you are missed everyday!!! You touched more lives than you ever knew and you are in my thoughts everyday !!! RIP
