Smith, a student of the school, and three of his friends were waiting for a ride home after a talent show, when they were robbed by armed men who jumped out of a car. Witnesses said Smith and three other teenagers cooperated with the gunmen and handed over their valuables. But one of the robbers, 16-year old Janard Orange, shot Smith, leaving him fatally wounded. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith was a freshman at the high school and played trumpet in the band. He had plans to record his music in Orlando. I am the mother of Gregory Smith and I am still angry because I don't understand how and why my child was murdered at a school event, why wasn't he protected? You never think that you'll send your child to a school event and something like this would happen!! The laws for juvenilles need to be stiffer the child that killed Greg waS 16 YEARS OLD AND HAD OTHER VIOLENT CHARGES!!!!! In fact there were warrants out for his arrest!! if they stop getting "slaps on the hand" maybe they'll stop comitting crimes!!!! to the kids that maybe reading this if someone threatens you or tells you they might hurt themselves or someone else don't take it lightly beacuse you never know it's not called "snitching" you maybe saving someones life!!! Losing Greg has devasted not only my family & I but also Greg's friends, group members and our community as well. He was a child that was " destined for Greatness" that loved his family, firends, and community he was on the right path to make a great future for himself as well as being a great person to th world RIP LIL GREG MOMMY LOVES U!!!

Man just to let ya know I knew both this cats since middle school days and janard has always been a trouble maker and always ending up on the wrong side of the law I hope he rots in hell for what he did to Greg. Every day my friends where a shirt to remember him if it wasn't for the greed of janard and his friends Greg would have still been here. Greg we miss you say hi to god for us..

till this day i still think about greg noo once have i forgotten about him. we were friends at lauderdale lakes middle. i looked up to him like he was a brother. and he taught me so much. its almost been two years and i will never forget him.
