Shooting at Buell Elementary School
Victims
- Kayla Rolland (6, Female), Student, Fatality
Shooter
Dedrick Owens (6, Male), Student
Occurred on Feb 29, 2000
6-year-old Dedrick Owens found a .32-caliber handgun in his uncle's home and brought it to his elementary school. Owens fatally shot 6-year-old Kayla Rolland in the presence of a teacher and 22 students. There is disagreement whether Owens pointed the gun at others, or spoke with the victim before shooting. Owens claimed it was an accident and that he only wanted to scare the victim. Kayla Rolland was believed to be the youngest school shooting victim in U.S. history, and Dedrick Owens was the youngest school shooter. Learn More (wikipedia.org)

This was no accident the little bastard pointed his fathers stolen gun at Kayla and said, "I don't like you Kayla", and then he shot her in the throat.

I don't think it happened exactly in that manner. The boys father isn't even around it was his uncles gun. The kid was six he could not comprhend what he was doing. I am truly sorry for Kayla's family. I just do not think at six a child can comprhend the power or consequences of a gun. I have a six year old and I know she doesnt.

You are obviosly misinformed about this shooting. It was his uncles' .32 handgun which should have been locked away from anyone who does not own it. Kayla was shot through her arm and into her vital organs. No one person other than Dedrick and Kayla know if they spoke before the shooting

I think that it was an accident and the safety wasnt on. He hit the trigger. I dont think a six year old has the guts to actually shoot anyone.
