Shooter
Michael Carneal (14, Male), Student
Occurred on Dec 1, 1997
14-year-old Michael Carneal opened fire on a group of praying students killing 3 girls and wounding 5 others. He wrapped two shotguns and two rifles in a blanket and took them to school, passing them off as an art project he was working on. He also carried the loaded .22 pistol in his bookbag. Carneal rode to school with his sister and arrived at approximately 7:45 a.m. When he arrived, he inserted earplugs and pulled the pistol out of his bag. He fired 8 rounds in quick succession at a youth prayer group. Five people were hit in their heads and another three were hit in their chests. Three seriously injured girls died while hospitalized; five others were wounded, two critically. Carneal dropped the gun after being confronted by a member of the prayer group. Carneal placed his pistol on the ground and surrendered to the school principal, Bill Bond. After dropping the gun Carneal said to Heady, "Kill me, please. I can't believe I did that." I was 20 when this horrible thing took place. I live in paducah it's not a very violent town. and im not saying by no means what carneal did was right. but it should make alot of bullies out there stop and think. I wish missy jenkins and her family. and all family's involved best wish's. but remember missy was'nt the only one. there were others who suffered to. I have seen carneal on tv many times. I still do not think by the way he act's he accepts full responsibility for what he done.people may call me crazy but in the back of my mind I knew times like that were comeing. I remember lot's of kid's being bullied.teen's stop and think your whole life is ahead of you.parents wake up listen to your kid's. teacher's need to get a lot more involved to.

I was a ninth grader attending Heath at the time of the shooting, I can still hear the sounds of the shots as if it were yesterday. I had just left the area and was going to class when all you heard what sounded like echos of books falling to the floor until everything just got quiet. Then it was clear to everyone what had happened because then came the screams. I just feel like crying remembering the looks of the teachers faces as they ran to the room to get towels. I remember most of those who were hurt and was very fond of Jessica. She was always cheerful and full of silliness. Michael, Jessica and I all had science together and you would never think he had such rage or that he could shoot a person of whom he shared his first hour of class with in the head. He purposely shot her! I wish that day never happened; I lost a very great classmate and her family lost a very wonderful girl!

I'm sorry, I said Jessica because I was thinking of her also, but I was talking about Nicole. Please forgive me?

I just want to say I am so sorry to all of you that were hurt. It was really to bad that Michael did not ask for the help he needed so badly.
I remember praying for the whole school and everyone in it when I say what had happened on the news.

I am watching "I survived" and they are talking about this on there. I didn't know about the shooting but my prayers go out to the family and friends of those who was killed and injured.

I just watched the "I Survived" episode of this and all I could think of was my 15 year old daughter. I cannot imagine any child having to face these kinds of attacks in a place that they are suppose to feel safe. Be thankful and hug your children, it could be them next time.
