A teacher's husband charged into her fifth-grade classroom, then stabbed and shot her as students watched. He later shot himself to death in his home after a standoff with police. The shooting happened at about 9 a.m. at Notre Dame Elementary, a private Catholic school on the main road in Portsmouth, a community in southern Ohio near the Kentucky border. Thank goodness Mrs. Layne survived. My husband and I live in Huntington, WV and this happened not too far from where we live. Whether the shooter is an adult or student, this needs to stop now before every child in this country is dead.
