Augustine Contreras, a junior at Venice High, was taken to a hospital in critical condition where he later died. Shortly after school let out, Contreras went to the aid of his two brothers, who were involved in a fight with at least five young men. The dispute, between black and Latino students, drifted into the faculty parking lot, where someone screamed, "One of them has a gun!" according to a witness. Contreras was then shot. A teacher raced over and cradled the boy's head, sobbing, until a security guard told her to move because an ambulance was coming, the witness said. Learn More (latimes.com)
