Officers Dwayne Reeves and Akia Scott were responding to a fight involving students. As they tried to handcuff the two men, the attacker Omar Tindell pulled out his handgun. He shot Reeves in the head and Akia in the finger with the same bullet. He later died at a hospital. Officer Dwayne Reeves, a four-year veteran, left behind a wife and a 16-year-old daughter, Ashley. What provoked the shooting remained unclear, but officials said that the two officers stepped in to break up a fight between two girls after one of them had placed a phone call to a relative, apparently seeking muscular backup, and that the relative showed up at the school.
