Morgan drove from Colorado to Middletown, with the intent of killing the target victim and also targeting Jews. He walked into the cafe in Red & Black Books the following day on the Wesleyan campus and shot the victim seven times at point blank range. Morgan's journal found inside the car contained entries threatening Jewish students of Wesleyan. Morgan came from a large churchgoing family and a privileged upbringing in one of Boston’s nicer suburbs.
