Occurred on Dec 10, 2007
In the first of a pair of shootings, two missionaries-in-training, Tiffany Johnson, 26, and Philip Crouse, 24, were killed and two more were wounded when 24-year-old Matthew Murray burst into a residence hall at the Youth With a Mission training school in the Denver suburb of Arvada. Murray then drove 65 miles to a church in Colorado Springs where he killed two more victims, before being shot by a security guard, and ultimately shooting himself. Johnson, who grew up in Chisholm, Minn., loved working with children and wanted to see the world, said family friend Carla Macynski. Crouse, of Alaska, had helped build a foster home at a Crow reservation in Montana, said Ronny Morris, who works with a Denver chapter of the mission. The gunman, Matthew Murray, was home-schooled in what a friend said was a deeply religious Christian household. He apparently held a grudge against the Christian group connected to both the missionary training school and the church. Learn More (denverpost.com)
